Stephanie Smith, Resume Consultant and Interview Coach

Hi, I'm Stephanie! I'd like to be the first person to welcome you to your next big opportunity!

I know the importance of a strong resume. In 2010, I was burned out, underpaid, and ready to escape social work. So I went back to school to become a CPA. The program itself was rigorous, but the biggest hurdle was yet to come: landing a job. With a background in massage therapy and social services, I was hardly a shoo-in for a position in public accounting.

So what did I do?

I enlisted help. I found a coach. And with the right support, I learned how to write a clear, compelling, effective resume. The rest is history. After nearly a decade with a Big Four firm, I've come back to where it all started: a great resume.

And I can't wait to help you take the next big step in your career!

Practical advice for a resume that

gets their attention

SUMMARY SECTIONS -

A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

(OR FAILURE)

Including a Summary section?

Channel your elevator pitch.

The Summary sets the tone for your entire resume.

It's a great opportunity to put your best foot forward.

But if it doesn't clearly state three crucial items, you've got a major problem.

02

02

STRONG VERBS? GREAT!

A VARIETY? EVEN BETTER.

Most people lean on a few, strong action verbs throughout their resumes.

These may be wonderful verbs.

But as they're repeated, the impact starts to wane.

If this sounds like you, it's time to branch out!

Here's some suggestions to get you started...

03

03

FORMATTING AND READABILITY MATTER... A LOT.

When you're focused on the content of your resume, formatting can become an afterthought.

But it matters.

It really matters.

It's so important to keep things clean and easy to read.

This means...

04

WRITE WITH THE INTERVIEW IN MIND

Most people think of their resume as once and done.

Get your foot in the door, land the interview, and move on.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Your resume has the power to set you up for a successful interview....

IF you write with the interview in mind!

05

FOCUS ON THE VALUE ADD

Most people use their resumes to document.

Daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities at past jobs.

Documentation is a great starting point.

But focusing on your impact will take things to a new level.

Think about specific situations.

Where did you...

CONSOLIDATE INFORMATION

I LOVE a resume that highlights past contributions and future potential.

But there are times when it's also important to document your day-to-day responsibilities...

... as long as they doesn't take up too much space.

So how do you handle past positions with lots of recurring tasks?

Combine them.
